Cherry Blossom Musical Arts, with support from the Jazz Station, presents "Playing the Edge" at the Jazz Station Saturday, Nov. 12th, 2011, 8-11pm, featuring the music of Paul Safar and Pianist/Composer Art Resnick and the Art Resnick Trio “Jazz? Classical? Let's just play!" Resnick, a prolific composer of both original jazz and classical chamber music, is known for his lyrical style and unusual but accessible compositions. He has toured and recorded with many jazz luminaries such as James Moody, Freddie Hubbard, Papa John Creach, Nat Adderly, Benny Golson, Bobby Shew, Gary Bartz and Charles McPherson to name a few. He has also recorded albums featuring his own music in trio and quartet formats including the recording of “Jungleopolis” which earned 5 stars in “Downbeat “ magazine. Art moved to Portland in 1990 from Paris after spending two years touring Europe. The Art Resnick Trio includes Resnick, along with bassist Dan Schulte, and drummer Jonas Oglesby. This trio has been playing together for years. The evening also features music by Cherry Blossom Artistic Director Paul Safar from Cherry Blossom's vaudeville show, "Visual Music" as well as new music by Portland/Prague based Dan Senn. Included in the evening's line up is the world premiere of Safar's latest piano trio featuring violinist Lisa McWhorter and cellist David Straka.
